OCS

Jon reported to OCS (officer candidate school) on Sunday January 24th.

I have done a bunch of reading, Here is what I know about what he is going through so far.

Sunday they checked in, had to take apart their suitcase and only take with them the "essentials" (underwear, socks, etc.) they put these items in the a garbage bag and are shuttled to a building where they get there "poppy suit" It's a green jump suit that they wear for the first 4 days of OCS. While they are in line waiting for there "poopy suit" they are given instructions while in line. The last instruction is how to tie there shoelaces. Then all of a sudden other officers candidates rush in the room and start yelling and screaming at them to fix there shoelaces. As they are yelling, the lights are flickering on and off, and someone is pounding a drum. This last a few minutes. HOW SCARY! This only last a few minutes, and after that they are given there suits and then go through more instruction.

Day two (Monday) they get there hair cut, or head shaving! They also go through more medical screening.
Day 3 (Tuesday) they have to pass there physical test to continue on. If they don't pass they are put in holding until they can pass. Jon has passed this test twice in Nashville, so I'm sure he did fine!
Day 4 (Wednesday) is supposedly a very hard day. It is the day they meet there drill instructor. The drill instructor wakes them up at 4:30 am and the yelling begins. They do a very hard workout (usually outside) I really hope they don't make Jon go outside in January in Rhode Island. BURRRR! Then from what I understand then, later that day, they get fitted for there uniforms.
Day 5 (Thursday) is the hardest day called outpost. I really don't understand what is done here. But from what I read it is the hardest day of the 1st week.

Thats pretty much all I know about the first week. I'm so proud of Jon for doing this! He is going to do great. I was so nervous for him to leave. I really was afraid of people yelling at him. He always told me he wouldn't mind it, because he knew it was a mind game. He is a lot stronger them me. I would crumble under that pressure. But he wants this very badly!

Please keep Jon in your prayers!

I hope April comes fast!

Labor Story

Disclaimer - This is the story how Jonathan came into the world. It's not gross, but it is a birth story.

It actually started on December 31st. I had a doctor appointment, everything went fine. The doctor asked if I had any questions at the end of our appointment. I then brought up what we had talked about before, Jon leaving for OCS on the 20th. She had mentioned that she would start to consider inducing labor after 38 weeks if everything was checking out well, because Jon was leaving. I was thinking/hoping that she would induce me on the 8th of January (his original due date was the 10th which is a Sunday) because I know she wouldn't induce on a Sunday I figured she would want to induce on a Friday.

Well, after I brought up being induce, she said if he wasn't here by the 15th then she would induce labor. Well, I think she since the disappointment in my voice. She decided to check me and see if I had dilated any. She then checked me and left the room for a moment. She came back in 2 minutes later and said she scheduled me to be induced Monday the 4th. Shock was smeared across my face and I looked over to Jon and he had the same shocked expression as well. (Monday was 4 days away). I then said, "well.... I wasn't thinking that quick, but..."
she then did a quick ultra sound to make sure the head was still down, and said to call her by noon to let her know if we really did want to be induced on the 4th. I had turned into complete excitement, Jon, well... he still had that shocked look on his face.

We talked about it on the way home, and I was really nervous. I really wanted him here. I wanted Jon to have as much time with our little man before he left. If we were to choose not to be induced on Monday, and little man did not come on, or near his due date. Jon would only have 4 days with his son. So, after more thought and a prayer, we decided to be induced on Monday January 4th.

The doctor had us come in at Midnight on Sunday/Monday. I was supposed to rest all day Sunday, which did not do any of. I was SOOO excited! The whole weekend Jon was a crazy man, cleaning and running around town to make sure everything was done before the baby came.

So Midnight came on Sunday/Monday and we went to the hospital to be induced. They hooked me up to the monitors and put my IV in (which kinda hurt). Then they told me they would come back at 2am and give me a pill to soften my cervix. So Jon and I slept a little, before the 1st pill. After the first pill they said they would come back at 6am and give me a second pill. Around 3:30 am the nurses rushed in my room (we were both dead asleep) and woke me up. They said the babies heart rate dropped. They had me turn on my side and gave me oxygen. His heart rate went back up, and he was fine. BUT of course I couldn't sleep after that. Jon never even woke up.

Around 7:45 am the doctor came in and checked me and wanted to do a foley bulb and start the pitosin. So that is what happen. The contractions started to come around 8:30-9:00am. They were not to terribly bad at first. I just had Jon hold my, and in between he would rub my feet (i was sooo hot) and scratch my arm. The doctor said the foley bulb when it came out would put me dilated at a 4, and I could get the epidural when I was at a 4. The doctor came back around noon to check me and the foley bulb had come out and I was at a 5, Hurray!!! I could get the epidural! When she took it out, I got out of bed to use the restroom and when I came back I realized I hadn't felt a contraction in a few minutes. I could see them on the monitor, but I didn't feel a thing. That continued for about an hour, we could see the contraction's, but I didn't feel anything. I asked the nurse, if something was wrong, or if I had stooped progressing. She said that everything was fine, I probably just had a high tolerance of pain...???? Umm I was feeling them in the morning, but not now.. Very confused.

Well I never felt another contraction. Around 3:30pm the doctor broke my water (that was a weird feeling). She was certain that I would then start feeling contractions and that they would be intense. NOPE! Nothing....... lucky me right?!

Well, then around 5:30 we decided to get an epidural, They thought that would relax me and that I would progress more. At this point I was still at a 5. In the next few hours I did dialate to a 6 and they could stretch me to a 7. The problem was that the baby was still very high up. He was not coming down to push on my cervix. He was staying up high for some reason we did not know. I kept getting checked on my progression throughout the evening. I was not progressing anymore. The baby was not moving down into my pelvis. The doctor was thinking he may have a big head and not be able to fit. Well, we kept waiting to see if he would come down at some point.

Around 12:45am January 5th, the nurse checked me and still not progress... I was very frustrated, tired and just wanted my son here!!! She went and got the doctor and she checked me as well, and had the same diagnosis, not progression. So She then brought up the C word.... C-Section. We decided it was the best option. I was prepped for the surgery and off I went.

The C-Section was interesting. I was scared, but excited that he would FINALLY be here! I did get sick in the ER which was not fun, but I was being taken very well care of. Jon came in the room in his bunny suite, and it was go time. He held my hand and talked to me the whole time. I wanted to be distracted. I could feel all the tugging and pulling. Very weird.

Then, I head the sweetest sound... a cry. It was amazing. My eyes filled up with tears. Jon was telling me how beautiful he was. They then brought him over to get all checked out and Jon went over to be with our son. I was just listening to him cry and felt very overwhelmed with love and amazement! Then the stitching up part of the surgery was really getting to me. I was minorly freaking out. They offered to give me some medicine to knock me out while they sewed me back up, but I didn't want anything until I could see Jonathan. So they quickly let me see him. He was beautiful. Then they knocked me out.

I woke up in my room. Jon was in there waiting for me. They brought Jonathan into my room 2 minutes later! I was holding him and it was so perfect. We were a family! Of course we took TONS of pictures and life was good.

They then took Jonathan to go get a bath, and Jon went with him. I feel asleep. I was so exhausted. They did take him for a few hours that night, but at 6:30am the brought him back to me and we have spent every moment since together.

I love being a mom. Everything takes 10 times longer to do. But it's ok. He is so perfect, I can't wait for all of you to meet him!

Baby Jonathan

We are home and doing well. We were able to go home Thursday night around 7pm. That was the day of the "big" snow storm in Nashville and we were anxious to come home. We almost didn't make it up the hill in our neighborhood, which was kinda scary. I was nervous, we were sliding down the hill, but Jon took good care of us and got us home.

We are adjusting to life with a baby pretty well. Jonathan has been really good. This is what he does in no particular order, Eat, Sleep, Poop....Repeat! That's it. OH, and every now and then he will stay awake and look around the room. We just smile at him and talk to him. It is pure bliss!

Here are the is Jonathan's life thus far in photographs. We Have taken so many pictures, and here are just a few. Enjoy
